Bought a new iMac last summer and today tried to load my Turbotax CD and could not find a slot into which to insert it. What the ****?! Did Apple forget to include it in version of iMac? What do I do now?

Do you still have your old Mac? If you do you can enable optical drive sharing on it via the System/Sharing preference pane, connect the two via LAN or cable and use the drive in the old machine from your new machine.
In the future you should purchase TurboTax online and download it to your Mac.
As already noted Apple hasn't included cd dvd drives on their computers for some years now. However you can get a very good external one from Best Buy for about $40. Or if you don't trust Best Buy you can get an Apple external superdrive for about double that price.
I've had the Best Buy one for several years now since I bought an iMac back in 2015. It's a usb model and it works perfectly. You just plug it into a usb socket on the back of your Mac, insert a disk and it works. No software necessary.
I believe you would have to purchase an external CD/DVD player.
Apple stopped selling machines with built in optical drives years ago. Maybe you should have actually looked at it when you bought it...
When you buy something online from Apple, they don't exactly tell you what is no longer included with the hardware.
Um... Yes. They do. Try actually looking at the specifications before you buy next time. They go into great detail.
