iPhone 12 Pro: Apple logo flashes not steady when doing a restart???

Yes my device is a brand new iPhone 12 Pro. The recent iPhones are not yet on the hardware list for anyone starting a question.

With my old iPhone X, to do a full reset I press briefly Volume Up, Volume Down, then hold Power until the Apple logo appears. That logo stays on during most of the restart (under a minute)

With new iPhone 12 Pro, same procedure leads to a momentary bright flash of the Apple logo rather than a steady logo. If I release the power button at that point, the screen stays black for a few seconds then the logo comes on for a few seconds, and the home screen returns. The phone has certainly restarted and may have done a full reset as intended. As expected after a restart, I have to re-enter my PIN to turn on FaceID.

Quite likely this is the new normal, with restart faster on the faster new phone. But it would be nice to know if that is the case, or if instead I have a problem with my new phone. I am encountering problems trying to do encrypted full backup to my Mac, and there is always the chance that my phone is defective.

I did try holding the power button longer after the logo flash. That had the same effect as holding it for a long time with the old phone: I was asked if I wanted to do a full restore rather than just a restart. But the logo did not come on and stay on at any time while the power button was being held.

Yes, it’s a bug in the startup procedure; the logo should stay on until the phone restarts, but it goes off, then comes back on. If you release the side button when the logo first flashes the phone will restart normally in about 15 seconds; it’s just a cosmetic bug. Rumor has it that iOS 14.5 will fix it.

BTW, that isn’t the best way to restart the phone, as it kills all processes without giving them a chance to save their local data. Usually this won’t be a problem, but occasionally it can result in recently updated data loss. The better way is to hold Volume Up and the Side button until Slide to Power Off appears, and do so. Then wait about 30 seconds, and hold the Side button to restart the phone. This procedure DOES notify all of the apps that they should save data before the phone shuts down; that’s why you wait 30 seconds for that process to complete.

New feature? Internal part change?

The logo could flash on and off to the best of The Bee Gees’ “Night Fever,” it still makes zero difference in the functionality of the phone and I can’t understand why people are getting so worked up about it.

If phones that did one or the other operated differently, that would be one thing, but if it’s just the boot logo, I don’t see the issue.

thanks for bringing this up because i was literally looking up on google if anyone else had this issue with the new iphone 12 pro. i wanted to restart my phone as per usual (iphone 11 for example) press volume up, volume down... then hold the power button. the apple logo doesn’t stay on the screen like before. it quickly flashes then goes to a black screen as if i completely turned it off? weird.
