I only have one Mac. Is it safe to install Big Sur yet or should I wait for the next update?

I only have one computer (MacBook Air) which I use as a teacher. Is it safe yet to install Big Sur yet or should I wait for the next update?

Hi Larry,

Make a backup using Time Machine, then upgrade to Big Sur. If the upgrade process fails, or if some applications don't work in Big Sur, you can revert back to the previous version of macOS using your Time Machine backup.

The easiest way to back up with Time Machine is to use an external drive with it. You'll want an external drive that has at least twice the total storage space of your internal drive.
