remvoing apple id from macbook pro

How can I remove my apple id from my macbook pro. I need to give my mac to someone else and I wish to completely remove my apple id and disassociate it from the macbook. I tried to sign out from the system preferences --> apple id --> overview. But after hitting the sign out button, it would open icloud preferences. Nothing else.
