What is the airflow - for the '18 MacMini...

AND why is the cooling so pathetic on this machine?

Yes, I know it is an Intel, Mac Mini, 6 core, i7 computer.

Also, any good cooling mods - simple, quiet and effective? I've seen a few - they never seem all that good - though a few are quiet (and some have the extra fan blowing the wrong way).

Air intake is on the bottom around the circular base. Exhaust is out the back. Secondary cooling uses the aluminum case as a radiator.

It runs hotter/louder than a 2014 because the 2014 used a 28W laptop CPU while the 2018 has a 65W desktop CPU. (The 2012's had 45W CPUs). The 2018 has a bigger fan to compensate, but it doesn't quite keep up with an i7 under a sustained load.

Simple would be a fan blowing air over the front/top to improve case cooling.

I don't think there are any super effective 'fixes'.
