Keyboard and Mouse battery life

Purchased the new 2020 Imac - having issues with battery life

keyboard and mouse only good for a few hours. Next day on trying to login both mouse and keyboard are dead I need to USB charge both devices.

Never had this issue with the key board and mouse with my older 2013 Imac (I would get a low battery warning) and the batteries would last for weeks.

Try the following as needed:

Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac - Apple Support

How to reset the SMC of your Mac - Apple Support

xBoot into Safe Mode by booting with the Shift key held down and check there to see if the problem persists.  Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 10 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

Hi mcsepit,

Thanks for contacting the Apple Support Communities!

We understand that when you're charge your Apple Keyboard and mouse, it won't hold a charge longer than a few hours, correct?

Are you using the Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse 2 that came with your iMac? If so, you may need service for them if the battery doesn't last.

We'd recommend that you reach out to Apple Support directly to help you to determine your options for you. You can find their contact details here: Contact Apple for support and service

Take care!
