Blurry Text and images on a 29 inch LG UltraWide Monitor with 2015 Macbook Pro

I have a 29 inch UltraWide Monitor connected to my 2015 Macbook Pro running BigSur (v11.0.1). However the text and images appear blurry on this UltraWide monitor.

To debug this further I checked the Display section under "About This Mac". I see that my MacBook is detecting the 29 inch LG Ultra Wide Monitor as a 34 inch LG Ultra Wide Monitor. I suspect this is the root cause of the display problem I am facing with the external monitor.

Is there a way to force Macbook Pro to detect the right size for this monitor?

i've got a 2018 macbook pro 13inch hooked up to a Acer Nitro XV340CK (using an apple multi port av adapter + hdmi 2.0). got very blurry text. fwiw the refresh rate is capped at 30hz; also some of the scaled options are 1080p, 1080i etc so i'm not sure if the monitor is recognized as a tv -- system report->graphic/display does not have television:yes though and color is also RGB.
