why won't the window to type in the code pop up

I'm trying to upgrade my OS from Yosemite, to Big Sur, and it wants me to sign into my apple id to authorize the download, but when i type in my password it asks me to type in the verification, (that i do receive via txt), but the bar to type in the code dent pop up for me to continue and then dialed the new os.

Think you type the password and the four digit code after it in the same box,

I don't think there is a separate box for the four digit code.
