Can't log in to my apple ID with Yosemite

I want to upgrade to a new operating system higher than Yosemite. To do this I need to log in to my apple ID. On appleid.apple.com I can log in with two step verification. In my app store I cant log in. When I log in I get an sms with a verification code. I think the problem is my apple ID login needs the two step verification but Yosemite doesn't have this option yet.

Can someone please help me figure out how to log in so that I can upgrade to a new operating system?

If you see a password box, enter the password (ABC) followed by the code (123) or ABC123 (no spaces).
