Controlling Mac OS Apps with External Presenter Pointer
I have a Logitec Spotlight Presenter. I can connect via USB dongle or Bluetooth. I am using a MacBook Pro (circa 2018) with Big Sur (11.1). I want to create create an online university course for the upcoming fall semester. I am using Keynote slides exported to html and shown via Safari on a separate monitor and a webcam for my headshot. I am running Open Broadcaster Software (OBS) Studio to switch back and forth between slides and webcam. OBS Studio allows for Hotkeys to be used to switch scenes (between slides and webcam).
Now for the confusing part....
When I use my USB-cabled external Apple Keyboard to control the OBS's Hotkeys it works for the case of 1) the active window (focus) is on OBS and also 2) when the active window (focus) is on Safari. This is key here. The OBS hotkeys work for both active or inactive window cases when I use the USB Apple Keyboard.
Now with the Logitec Spotlight presenter has 1) the normal left and right buttons. But it also has the feature of being able to assign keystrokes if you press and hold the left button and a separate set of keystrokes if you press and hold the right button. The idea here is if I assign a set of keystrokes for OBS hotkeys to switch scenes between slides and webcam, and set the same keystrokes on Logitec remote device, I can switch scenes by pressing and holding the left and right button and also advance slides by a simple click.
Now for the important part...
If the OBS window is active (focus), then the Logitec press-hold feature works with OBS and I can switch scenes. BUT, if Safari is the focus then the Logitec press-hold feature does not work. Recall from above that if I used the USB Apple Keyboard, I can use the OBS Hotkey keystrokes even when Safari is the active.
In short...
The Apple Keyboard seems to have permissions to interact with non active windows and the Logitec Presenter cannot interact with non-active devices. I want to change the permissions for the Logitec device to have the same permissions the the Apple Keyboard has.
Thanks for any help you can provide. And, sorry to the very lengthy message.
