Crossfade in Apple Music on iPhone

Is the iPhone still incapable of crossfading between songs played on Apple Music? I've read older posts that this was not possible but since they were from 2017 and have not been updated I wanted to check.

I think that letting Android users of Apple Music crossfade for up to 12 seconds and not loyal iOS Apple Music users like myself have that function is a slap in the face for our loyalty to Apple and it’s devices… I have an Android tablet with Apple Music installed and because my playlists are identical to the app on my iPhone 12 Pro Max I am tending to listen to them more and more on my Android tablet for one simple reason, crossfading! Please Apple give the iPhone users of fantastic Apple Music what we deserve, the crossfading function you’ve seen fit to give to users of Android devices ASAP! (TBH I’m getting a bit sick of paying for 2 music streaming services for use on my iPhone 12 Pro Max (Apple Music & Spotify) when Apple Music is my favourite just so I can have crossfading on my iPhone by using Spotify just because it does include crossfading!!!)

The problem isn’t about the iPhone not being capable of crossfading… The crossfading would be performed by the Apple Music App like it is when using the Android version of Apple Music. If Apple can tweak the Android version of Apple Music to include Crossfading (that happened some time ago now…) then they cannot claim it isn’t possible to do! Maybe Apple aren’t bothered about giving Crossfading to it’s loyal iPhone users because there aren’t enough of us yet asking to be treated equally to Android users of Apple Music (it works really well on the Android version of Apple Music on my tablet… Just as good as the Spotify app Crossfading on my iPhone using identical playlists!). I really do feel as if Apple is sending me the message🖕not adding Crossfading to the iOS app despite me only using iPhone since I got my first smart phone (I don’t have one friend who hasn’t abandoned iPhone and moved to Android because they were sick of the way Apple behaves towards users of their admittedly fantastic phones…) FFS Apple, pull your finger out and give users of iOS Apple Music what we really want (and deserve…) the Crossfading function you’ve given to users of your biggest OS rival, Android!

I hear your frustration as I always liked the crossfade feature using Mac iTunes all the way back to version 2 on OS9 and could never understand why it's not available on the iOS versions. However, if you want to use a different app which works well and also has an EQ, the Onkyo HF Player (free) is an option. You only need to pay if you want to listen to hi-res tracks. Since I tend to shuffle my tracks and have a good number of live ones, I enjoy having the crossfade feature to smooth out the beginnings and endings of those mixed in with others. There is only one setting so you can't adjust the length of the fade like you can on Mac OS. Hope this may be of some help to others. My phone is an older iPhone7 Plus using latest 14.4.2 software.

I have told my friends who finally abandoned using iPhone after years of being loyal to Apple and switched to Android (they all think I am crazy sticking with Apple when Sam*ung are producing such fantastic phones!) about the fiasco with Apple giving Crossfading to Android users of Apple Music ages ago and still not doing the right thing and bringing it to iOS. My friends say this attitude towards it’s iPhone users is when drove them away from a brand they loved and whose phone was something they had wanted to own for ages… I love my iPhone 12 Pro Max and would have to think hard & long about following my friends and abandoning iPhone for Sams*ng but IT REALLY IS LEAVING A BAD TASTE IN MY MOUTH TO SEE ANDROID USERS OF APPLE MUSIC HAVING CROSSFADING ON THEIR APP WHILE I’M STILL WAITING TO GET IT ON iOS 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬!!! My tablet is Android and I’ve I’m really enjoying using crossfading with my playlists on it and it works real good when set to the maximum 12 seconds track overlap. It has become a real pain in the *** having to switch between Apple Music (better sounding music) and Spotify (okay sound but not quite as good as Apple Music) just so I can hear my playlists the way I want (I wouldn’t choose a club where the DJ left gaps between tracks when I could dance at a club where the DJ crossfades his music…) so WTF do I still have to have gaps between tracks when listening to identical playlists on Apple Music when I can listen on Spotify (iPhone & Android tablet) with my playlist tracks blending almost perfectly because Apple obviously VALUE ANDROID USERS OF APPLE MUSIC MORE THAN THOSE OF US WHO ARE PREPARED TO PAY ALMOST $1100 FOR APPLE’S FLAGSHIP PHONE!!! FFS Apple wake up and smell the coffee, either let us know if iOS users can look forward to getting crossfading soon or if you plan to keep giving us the 🖕. I’m only prepared to keep paying two music streaming subscriptions a month for so long and then I’ll be biting the bullet and saying ta-ta to Apple Music and using only Spotify which it seems is more prepared to give it’s customers what they want to enjoy their music…

I doubt that Apple “doesn’t have the technology” to bring crossfading to iOS Apple Music, if they’ve done it for the Android version than the ability to add crossfading in an update obviously does exist! I really can’t get my head around why months after bringing crossfading to Android Apple Music we iPhone users are still waiting (and hoping…) for it! I hope it isn’t the case but I’m starting to strongly suspect that Apple just doesn’t give a flying fart about those of us who are asking for equal treatment with Android Apple Music users and getting something that is quite obviously making some folks prepared to abandon Apple Music and become Spotify users permanently all because of Apple’s apparent disregard for our requests for something they could give us in an update to iOS Apple Music, CROSSFADING… 🤬

The major issue that I have with Apple is that they force you to do what they think that you want to do instead of giving you the option to do thing differently. Let’s be honest, the Music desktop app is a mess. You can’t click on the artist name to access it’s page so you have to do a search, then click on the name, click on the discography to access an album. A lot of clicks for something fairly basic. The “back button” is not operable if you leave the artist page and want to come back immediately ! You need to repeat the search and on and on...So stupid ! I have a 2200+ songs playlist on Spotify that I wanted to transfert on Apple Music. Do you have any idea how much time it took me with these procedures of multiple clicks and searches ??? On Spotify, you just click the artist name and access the full discography in two seconds. And the “back button” works like a charm.

Another issue that I have. If you want to listen to a song on your Sonos, you have to add it on a playlist first, then open the Sonos app, open Apple Music, click “my music”, find the playlist, and click it, click the song and THEN enjoy the music...On Spotify, click the song, click the Bluetooth icon and there you go...you can enjoy the song in two clicks. Why is it so simple in Stockholm and so complicated in Cupertino ?

I came to the point where I don’t see any advantages in opting for Apple Music instead of Spotify. And since I don’t really care about News and News+ Or Arcade, I don’t really see the need to keep my Apple One membership. Too bad...

I feel like innovation is leaving apple. They are getting further and further behind because they have this arrogance about them. Because they do have the largest market cap/share. My phone has been nothing but glitchy from day one (iPhone 12) The Apple TV’s I have are problematic and glitchy as well. I can say my MacBook Pro is great. And my mini’s. I have a total of 16 devices of apple but this is starting to fade (pun intended). I see some very interesting features on Samsung products that I’m just confused why the great apple doesn’t have

Anyone surprised to read this news that has just been released? I never thought Apple would make me feel so ****** off by one of its seemingly brainless decisions, to give crossfading to Android OS and sit back and ignore our pleas for equal treatment! https://www.techinvestornews.com/Apple/Latest-Apple-News/apple-behind-microsoft-google-intel-samsung-in-reputation-survey

It sounds VERY “funny” to those who are laughing their way to the bank... That and dropping Motorola processors for INTEL JUNK is a slap in the face too. The only reason I wanted a PowerPC processor at half the ghz rating is because they’re so much more efficient. So why then did Apple drop them and go wirh intel? Things like this and the price and the hype and especially the engineered obsolescence are such hard slaps to my face I’ll end up buying anything else. I wish it wasn’t so, Apple haven’t been the same for a decade so instead you’re a shareholder they don’t care. Cheers Apple, you’ve given non-Apple users ammo for their arguments well beyond compatibility these days

If you're listening to your own content and want to crossfade, then the Onkyo HF Player can handle that and it also has a great EQ feature which can help with various headphones or just for your own preferences. Some here have mentioned Spotify which I don't use. There are other players that can crossfade and I think Vox is one of them but some run too hot and drain the battery too quickly. The Onkyo player does not so that is the one I've been using.

Those are all great but they all cost mo money. I’m already paying a lot to Apple of the actual phone, subscriptions, etc. AlI ask is for cross fade. It’s what helps keep the party going on already great quality music. A simple feature that can make all the difference in the world. I wonder if me saying all this is going to make Apple install this feature at a cost for us. :)
