iPhone 12 ProRAW problems (airdrop sends only .jpg)

I have problems with ProRAW on iPhone 12 pro (iOS 14.3). I enabled the RAW option and have RAW badge on the photo.

When trying to transfer the DNG to mac via airdrop it only sends .jpg file (I did not do any edits to the photo). I tried to import the same RAW file to Lightroom mobile and it's the same - only .jpg. The only way to get the DNG was to connect iPhone to mac using cable, importing to Photos app and then "exporting unedited original" and sending it back to iPhone.

Is there any way to transfer DNG via airdrop? And is there any way to edit RAW directly in Lightroom without sending it to mac and back to iPhone again? Seems like a lot of unnecessary hassle.

aand, I found the problem. I noticed other folks online having the same issue and one individual said they switched from 16:9 to 4:3 format and it worked. It seems that 16:9 is not fully supported for ProRAW it seems, which is weird. I am going to see if being connected to my Mac vias the usb C to lightning cable allows me to send ProRAW through that instead.

You are exactly correct. I took some photos in the 16:9 ratio and airdrop sends JPG. When I switch from16:9 to 4:3 there is no issue transferring in DNG unless you make edits to the photo before airdropping it. I hope apple further expands on the ProRaw/Camera and gives us additional camera features. Specifically changing the default aspect ratio of photos at the time of capture and retain Raw. I like to take all my photos in standard 3:2 but still retain the extra data of 4:3 if I need to make changes. Other times I'm taking photos in 16:9 for a video. In Lightroom all this can be done in DNG however can't shoot DNG with UW lens.

Hello tp_71,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand that you're unable to transfer your DNG files using AirDrop between your iPhone and Mac. We'd be happy to look into this with you.

On your iPhone, you may need to change the Settings as follows, as choosing "Automatic" will transfer photos and videos in a compatible format:

Go to Settings > Photos > Transfer to Mac or PC > “Keep Originals”

The "Share ProRAW photos" section in the resource below has additional information to check out:
