Desktop icon don't stay where I put them...

OS 10.11.6.

Most icons will stay where I put them but others will jump somewhere else.

To be fair it seems that there are spots several on my desktop that don't allow icons and when I try to put one there it jumps somewhere else.

I have even moved and icon and then tried to return it to it's original spot and it jumps away.

Advice?

Click once on your Desktop, click on View in the menubar.

Select Show View Options and set your Arrange By and Sort By fields how

you want your icons to behave and display.

Ok so there is no Arrange By option in El Capitan, it is hard to remember

each OS's own little peculiarities.

But you should be able to work things out for yourself by experimenting with the different settings.

for me Snap to grid has never been a good option, it is often too random and the snapping to grid

doesn't seem to follow a logical pattern, just when you get to some sort of order a folder or file

you want to place will jump away to a random location or you might find a space that nothing

will go to. Always going to be that way, Apple ain't going to do anything about it, find a better

way of organising your Desktop.
