MacBook Pro M1 Pink Boxes - Shutdown

Hello,

I’ve had my M1 MacBook Pro for a few weeks and haven’t used it much (mostly due to my job keeping me too busy). Either way, tonight I was having an important Zoom meeting using my M1 MPB and the screen suddenly flashed a bunch of pink (maybe purple) boxes and shutdown. I’ve never experienced anything like this before and from what I’ve seen, most people only experience this when using an external monitor over HDMI.

I have a call scheduled tomorrow with Apple support to discuss it, but has anyone else experienced this? My first fear was a GPU issue, but who knows? I’m so worried that my new MacBook is failing and I haven’t even used it.

It’s odd because I wasn’t connected to an external monitor or anything. I also called Apple and they essentially offered no help other than making a note of the incident. I haven’t experienced it again, but it is a concern for me.

I haven't had it happen to me when I'm not connected to a monitor (yet), I'm also running a lot of stuff out of an external hub so I wondered if that was causing the issue but now that you mention your computer wasn't connected to anything, I agree, that is concerning and also just a pain in the ***. I'll try my luck with Apple anyway and see what happens.

I've had exactly the same problem. Running a second monitor with HDMI cable, only had the computer 2 weeks as well! Did you figure out the issue? Going to call Apple tomorrow.
