Brother DCP 1612w printer on M1 MAC MINI

Just upgraded fom my old 2010 Mac Mini to an M1, bit of a leap in perfomance!

Only issue I have is finding a driver for my Brother printer.

It does not support Airprint, but worked fine on my old Mac.

I have downloaded Brother iPrint and Scan, which works to print jpg's and photos, but I can't print using the normal system print functions.

Anyone else had this problem, and is there a solution?

Thanks in advance.

Al.

Hi,

The latest driver for the DCP-1612w appears to be for macOS Catalina 10.15.

One cannot completely rule out that this driver may work even with Big Sur. There have been some reports about this for other models (for example, in Brother Printer Drivers for Big Sur. - Apple Community). I have not tested it. If you try it, it would be a pure experiment. It may fail. There is always a risk involved with an experiment. It could lead to software conflicts, etc. You could lose data, and you may have to erase and reinstall everything on the computer. Multiple backup copies of important files would be essential under all circumstances. Even if a hardware problem is unlikely, it is impossible to guarantee anything. So, search for additional information, and make sure that you know exactly what you are doing.
