I changed my user password but now can't unlock system prefs

I bought a new MBP 16". After successfully migrating my data from my old MBP, I installed Big Sur. Everything seemed fine and running smoothly. It was long overdue for a new password so I changed it in the security & privacy prefs. I can log onto the computer from a restart but now, the only system pref that unlocks is the Touch Id, oddly enough. I can't unlock anything else. I tried changing my password back to the old one and it accepted the change but the problem persists. I am the only user and I have admin privileges. Could use a little help here. Thanks
