Factory settings on iPad

I have a 2011 G2 iPad can no longer be updated in terms of iOS and apps, so it has to go.

I want it to go to a new home where it may be helpful to someone who could do with a means of communication during the pandemic.

So, if I revert the old iPad to factory settings to gift it to someone, will it wind back the OS and all the apps to the way they were when I bought it in 2011?? If so, it would be useless, as it can’t be updated from that base level.

However, if going to factory settings would leave the OS and Apps in their ‘best they can be’ state, it would be much more useful.

I’d be grateful to know how the OS and Apps are treated by reversion to factory settings, thanks
