home sharing

I have an Apple TV 3rd Generation. When I plug it in, a message displays stating that Home Sharing must be turned on. Using my Mac, I have Home Sharing turned on, using the same Apple ID for both devices. However, the Apple TV device still won't activate and still give the same message.
