Can someone please tell me why the USB-C to Digital AV adapter is not compatible with my IPad Air 2020 model? The HDMI supports the picture but not the sound. Is this because the IPad Air does not have the same USB-C connection as the Pro?

it should be okay for an iPad Air 4th generation (see section "compatibility").
Check also the HDMI cable.

Well, if you scroll down to section "Compatibility", and tap/click on the "+" symbol on the right side, you should be able to see it...

Unfortunately I cannot test it on an iPad Air 4, but it should be okay as per section "Compatibility" in the link I posted in my previous reply.
Did you try a different HDMI cable too?

I also have a lightening to HDMI adapter which works perfectly so it is not an HDMI cable issue. The compatibility statement for the adapter only has the IPad Pro - not the Air. Still baffled!!
Thank you for your reply. I have tried this adapter but after a chat with Apple Support, I checked the compatibility and unfortunately it DOES NOT support my IPad Air. I get picture but no sound which is why I am asking the question. What is different about the USB-C on an IPad Air?
Thank you for taking the time to find this. The apple adapter I used was not compatible, but we may have an older version over here (UK) compared to this stateside version. May have to wait a while for it to appear over here. Once again thank and I’ll just have to wait and see. Kind regards
Obviously the adapter I have is an older model, but what is strange is that when I phoned the Apple helpline they told me that this AV adapter was not compatible. I will try to change it and see what happens. Once again many tlhanks.
