Stainless Watch Strap problem
Hi, i bought a stainless watch strap with my watch. Unfortunately, the watch strap is not produced in stainless steel, as the watch strap rusts. Has anyone experienced the same as me? I've never had my watch in water.

The Milanese band (shown) is stainless steel, but with a higher iron content than most stainless steel in order to be magnetic. As a result, it is more prone to corrosion. It looks to me like, that from your photo, the band must have been in contact with some sort of corrosive chemical even though you say it hasn't been in water. this could have been a number of household chemicals such as bleach or some other strong cleaner or solvent?

Hi, I disagree that you can use the term stainless steel for steel that rusts. Stainless Steel dos not rust! Stainless steel is a group of iron-based alloys that contain a minimum of approximately 11% chromium, a composition that prevents the iron from rusting and also provides heat-resistant. If it rust, you can say its made out of Stainless Steel, but you can call et Steel - Calling it stainless steel is therefore not the correct term to use . Fun fact: The only thing without any rust is the fasteners and the magnet :-). All metal part on my boat and on my bike, and all water taps in my house are made out of reel Stainless Steel, and that is why there is no rust on these metal parts. I have thrown out the rusti watch strap, and am now investigating whether I can find a better alternative, or whether I should choose a leather strap, now that I can not buy a stainless steel watch strap from Apple :-(.
Was this strap purchased directly from Apple or bought thru another online retailer? I've heard that there's quite a few pretty convincing knock-offs out there. Surely if this band came directly from Apple, that they would make good on it.
Don't believe the generic term "Stainless Steel" it usually means it is corrosion resistant not corrosion proof. Apple does not sell the Milanese as water or corrosion resistant at all. Your picture does not clearly show any rust, but the fasteners to the Watch and the magnet and magnetic clasp are not stainless at all.
Have you tried cleaning it with soap and water?
Oh Apple makes and markets a link "stainless" bracelet if you want to part with about $450. Amazon.com: Apple Watch Link Bracelet (42mm) - Space Black
The watch strap has not been in the vicinity of chemicals such as bleach or other strong cleaning agent or solvent. The most extreme The watch strap has been exposed to is some skin lotion and a little sunscreen, but a stainless steel watch strap should also be able to withstand that - i Hope :-)
Hi,
I have of course tried to clean the watch strap with water and soap :-). I have actually also tried to get the watch strap cleaned by a professional watchmaker, but there was nothing he could do about The rust issue. The watchmaker told me that price and quality are often related. When told this, he was not yet aware of how expensive an Apple watch strap is. He was quite sure that he did not have a watch strap in this price range in his range that could rust.
I bought the watch strap together with my Apple Watch through iStore, so I very much hope that the strap and the watch are original :-)
