Screen mirroring with a 2013 MacBook Pro and a 2010 iMac

Hi all

Thanks in advance for your help. I'd like to use my 2010 27" iMac as a display for my late 2013 MacBook Pro. I've got it working using a wifi connection, but am hoping a cable can help reduce a bit of lag I'm experiencing.

Is there a way to do this? My MacBook has thunderbolt ports, USB and HDMI. My iMac has USB, Firewire and, I think, a mini DisplayPort.

So...is this possible and, if so, what cable(s) do I need and how do I do it? Or am I best sticking to the wireless connection?

Thanks again.

Russell, I'll let you see if theses links have information to help you.

Use your iMac as a display with Target Display Mode - Apple Support - https://support.apple.com/HT204592 - iMacs late 2009-Mid 2014

This could only be done with a very few and very specific older iMacs and support was very limited. Read this topic for a 2021 perspective on this: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/252271436?answerId=254300142022#254300142022
