Epson V500 scanner not recognized after upgrade to OS Catalina 10.15.7

Image Capture finds the scanner and scans, but none of the Epson drivers find the scanner. I just updated them so they are current.

All suggestions are welcome!

Saving a Few:

Run it Using a Windows Virtual Machine:

If there ends up being not solution for this, consider using a Virtual Machine(VM) for running Windows (Windows-in-a-window). It would be much less than purchasing a new scanner. You would open the scanner software on the VM, and use Windows-only compatible software on it. All would be accessed and would operate as desired on the VM. Virtual Machine applications include VMWare Fusion and ParallelsLearn more here: What Is a Virtual Machine? - VMWare Support.

The only way to use it on your Mac may be though use of a virtual machine. It may be less expensive than a new scanner. It would run right off of that.

When you say updated, do you mean the ICA v5.8.9 driver from Jan 5, 2021? If that is not working for you, then your alternative is to contact Epson, or decide on vendor independence and just use the paid VueScan Professional, which expects a functional Epson driver to be installed, and may actually work properly with that v5.8.9 driver. There is a free VueScan trial to determine that.

Thanks for the quick reply! Though quite disappointing that I might have to spend $50 - 100 just to be able to use my existing scanner. Glad to know that this is a sadly common issue and not user error. :-)

I will contact Epson, since they still sell the V500 flatbed scanner--it's not discontinued--and see if they have a workaround or an updated driver to be released.

Yes, unfortunately I've done all that but no joy. Apparently OS Catalina stranded quite a lot of scanners and I have another scanner that could be vulnerable in future. SO I believe that I am going to take Viking OSX's advice and try VueScan as the company appears to specialize in scanners and address this particular issue.

Thanks so much, however, for your suggestion.

Stay safe, everybody!
