I have an iMac Pro (2017) that after selecting a user and entering the correct password, goes to the black apple logo screen, then to a black screen with the prohibitory logo and is stuck there requiring a forced reboot. ?o

Why?

Our iMac Pro (2017) Catalina, will sometimes end up on the black/prohibitory screen after booting to the user select page then with the correct user password entered fails to properly load user environment and ends up on the black/apple logo screen and then the black/prohibitory logo screen and is stuck requiring a forced reboot.

It isn't always the same user and seems to correct itself once successfully logged into a user.

Trying booting in safe mode and sign in to the affected user. Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support

I rebooted into Recovery mode and did a OS re-install. Seems to have resolved my issue for now.

reinstalling the OS through recovery seems to have resolved the issue, will update if it returns.

if you use safe mode you can figure out if it is a faulty software or a system issue. if you cant figure it out after safe mode contact apple support and/or bring in for repair (if necessary).

Thank you. It isn't limited to just one user though...and it is hard to tell if it is floating around the users or if it just occurs intermittently to all users, because it requires a forced shutdown when it does occur. Then on starting back up it may not occur.

Hello Ron, my MacBook Pro 2012 does the same since a couple of days and I not getting around it.

At the Login screen I am entering the password, at that moment it already goes mad and screens are flickering at re-boot.

I have checked all disks and there are no eminent errors presented.

Did you resolve the issue?

Update: it seems to be intermittent or variable. Forcing a reboot will sometimes lead to the problem being eliminated, but it may show up again next time or when switching to another user.
