Smart playlist not syncing onto iphone correctly

I had a smart playlist to grab 100 random songs from my massive library. I just synched this morning, and I got 14 songs on the playlist on the phone. The playlist on the computer is fine. Its not a capacity issue.

What has sometimes worked is if I uncheck the playlist on the selection options. Then I sync the phone and its gone. Then I recheck it and sometimes it works ok for a while. Today I tried this and I watched as itunes copied 100 songs onto the phone, but now the smart playlist shows 14.

ideas? I'm current and upgraded on itunes

It sounds like only some songs from your playlist are syncing onto your iPhone from your Mac, is that right? We'd like to see how we can help.

Are you using these steps to sync music between your Mac and iPhone? Sync music between your Mac and iPhone or iPad

When this issue occurs, and only some songs sync, do you ever see an error? If so, what does the exact error say?

Does this issue only happen with a specific playlist, or does it occur with all playlists you try to sync?

yes, it is only the one playlist. other smart and non-smart playlists are functioning fine. I completely deleted it and rebuilt it with the same rules a bout 2 months ago. Now it is behaving the same.

What confuses me is that I watched in the sync process the itunes copy 100 songs onto the phone. But when I open the play list, they are not there.
