I want to save images in Messages to my Photos Library. On my laptop I have:
1) gone to a thread in Messages
2) clicked on the encircled 'i'
3) scrolled down to the bottom
4) under all the images clicked 'Download'
And progress is noted, the number decreasing.
My question: Where do they download to?! Not in ~/Pictures. Not in ~/Downloads.

That's where the attachments are initially located. You could copy the Attachments folder to the Desktop, do a search in the folder for all images and move them to another folder.

Control (right) - click on the photo in Messages and select "Add to Photos Library" from the contextual menu:
It's easy. Open the Attachments folder and do a ⌘+F to get this:
Then do a select all and copy (if you're in the original Attachments folder) to another folder.
Thanks but that is for one image at a time. And I have used that method off and on. But I am talking about downloading all images at once. As I said, performing the steps I wrote above does download. I just don't know where they download to. See the attached image. Clicking 'Downloads' does just that.
Yikes! The files structure once you're there is as arcane as it gets, to the point of useless.
Thanks nevertheless. Maybe someone someday will write an app to extract the files from all those folders.
WOW! My mind must be stuck in 'Pause', or worse! I should have thought of this. Or quit thinking I know my way around a Mac.
