I have a mic and a cord to plug it into my Mac, however when I open GarageBand it doesn't give me the option to select built in input, instead it played sound out of the mic itself. I have checked settings so that Garageband has access to my mic and I've also checked my Garageband settings. I've attached some screenshots, which I took whilst my mic was plugged into the laptop. (Q16 are my wireless earbuds) and the mic is plugged into the headphone jack

Hello aona_,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand that your external mic is not working for input.

Depending on which Mac you're using, your port may be output only. Check out the different audio ports from About the audio ports on Mac which can help you identify which one you are using.

Also, if your microphone has an on/off switch try turning that on. If it's not working, try a headset with a microphone. Does that work without any issues?

Take care.
