Speedtest failing

Seems that it happened quite a few times. I can't get Speedtest (standalone app) to run. It starts and finally displays:

It started to behave this way under Catalina and is the same after I moved to Big Sur. Same using Ethernet or WiFi. Same using Firefox connected to speedtest.net

However it works OK on my iPhone (connected to the same WiFi, router and provider).

kronoso1979 had about the same issue and solved it by:

So I finally solved the issue. The issue seemed to be in my privacy/content settings. I removed all privacy content restrictions. I have my restrictions set high only because I want to make sure nothing can infiltrate my Mac.

Would anybody have an idea of where and what to tweak those privacy restrictions (that I did not alter intentionally)

My quick config is: MacBook Pro 16" 2019 2.3 GHz Intel i9 8 core, connected via a Belkin USB 3 to the Ethernet Gigabit router port. Now running Big Sur 11.1

Thanks for any help.

You could see if it works in Safe Mode or while logged into a different user account.

Thanks for your suggestion. It worked in the sense that I logged in on a different (but still administrator) user account and I could get Speedtest to connect and measure.

The account I used is not tuned up, just fresh from creating it. Where could I look for differences?

Sure enough my "normal" account has lots of bells and whistles, applications or others which could interfere (although I could not identify any).

Among all I have "Radio Silence" and "Private eye" which both deal with Internet connection. I had suppressed both (with Appcleaner so as to remove the files linked) and it did not help.

Any further idea will be welcome !!

Thx
