iPhone 12 Pro / Apple logo "flashes" at start-up....is this normal?

Whenever I re-start my iPhone 12 Pro, the white Apple logo will appear VERY briefly (less than a second) then the screen goes completely dark for 3-4 seconds. Then the Apple logo reappears and the phone re-starts normally. Is this a new normal process, or is there possibly a hardware or software problem with my phone? I've never experienced this before having been an iPhone owner for 10+ years.

I am following the instructions from the Apple Support website: “To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button (on the right side of your iPhone) until you see the Apple logo.”

Hello Everyone. I also had this flashing apple logo at startup issue on my brand new iphone 12 pro max. I was very concerned and i read on internet that this issue will be addressed in upcoming ios 14.5 update. I was very much concerned so i wanted to check it out myself. So, today i updated my iphone to ios 14.5 beta 8.

As soon as the phone got updated to beta version, BOOM.. that flashing logo issue gone! the phone start up went back to normal.

The bottom line is that now it is confirmed that flashing logo was a software related issue that has been addessed by apple in upcoming ios 14.5 that would be out in i guess a couple of days now.

So, do not worry everyone. This software bug will be fixed as soon as you upgrade to ios 14.5.

Cheers :)

As I’ve posted too many times in this thread, It is a very, very minor cosmetic bug in the startup process. It does not affect operation of the phone at all. The correct startup procedure: Hold the SIDE button until an Apple logo appears (or flashes), then release it and wait. The phone will start normally once iOS finishes loading. That may take 15-30 seconds. That’s about the startup time for any iPhone of any vintage. And most likely it will be fixed in the next iOS update. Instead of flashing, going out, and coming back on, the logo will come on and stay on until the phone finishes its boot process and displays the lock screen.

The correct startup procedure: Hold the SIDE button until an Apple logo appears (or flashes), then release it and wait. The logo is supposed to stay on until the phone restarts, but for some reason it goes out after appearing briefly. However, the phone will still start normally once iOS finishes loading, without any further action on your part. That may take 15-30 seconds.

I have an iPhone 12 Pro and it is not normal when restarting your iPhone. But . . . If you are updating your iPhone you will see the apple logo appear for less than a second and then blacks out and then shows again with a bar meaning the update progress. You might have a software issue because the boot files might of gotten messed up meaning you will have to restore the iPhone through iTunes

Hopefully this helps

My iPhone 12 Pro Max that I just got Thursday last week does the same EXCEPT it will NOT boot up normally unless I go through the process a couple of times. If I hold the power button for the first time it will do the bright flash of the logo and disappear and it will not load the OS no matter how long you hold the button down without letting go. I have to usually do it 2 - 3 times then it will finally load and go. Mines an AT&T phone/128GB. I am going to return today and when I fire up for the first time new I am NOT going to load the update if available and see if it still does it. I want to keep on iOS 13 if possible and see if does the same. Of course that will be based on what software the phone shipped with but will update after I get the phone.

DON’T hold the button down and not let go; that prevents it from booting. Hold it until the logo appears, then let go and wait. It will start on its own in about 30 seconds.

I have the same issue in my brand new 12 pro max. During turning on the device I see the apple logo for 2 seconds and the screen goes dark for 6 seconds and again the logo flashes and boots up normally. I connected with the customer care and they ran a diagnostic test and confirmed that it is not a software issue and might be a hardware issue. So taking my device to Icare to check with them.

I have had the same issue. I just got the iPhone 12 Pro Max 4 days ago. And I noticed the flash of logo and 10-30 second wait til the phone starts up. So I called support yesterday and they had run the data analysis test and they said everything was fine but if I want to I could exchange it, so I went to the mall yesterday and I just pending 2 1/2 hours explaining and waiting they didn’t want to exchange it. But finally I was able to talk to a manager and I exchanged it and everything was fine with the phone but then this morning I noticed it was doing the same thing!? So I’m beginning to think it’s a normal thing with the 12 pro max. The technician did mention sometimes that’s normal for the 12’s because they have HD, 5G, etc.

ok my issue was definitely a SW problem. One of my apps infiltrated the iPhone OS and was corrupting it. Not sure why an OS as mature as the iPhones has this issue. I eventually got it to boot in DFU mode, then did a restore from backup. Not good. Same issue. After another day or so I got it to go into DFU mode again (not sure how, it just eventually does this after continuous reboot cycling for a few days). Then I did a clean sweep factory restore installation and have been slowly adding my apps back one by one. This time it said my OS was out of date (it wasn't because its the same version as before) so it loaded a small piece (few MB) of OS software this time. Not exactly sure what it loaded. Its been five days and so far so good, but only have less than half of my original apps installed.

I've spent MANY hours on the phone with senior advisors and engineers from Apple trying to determine if my phone or the software is causing this consistent problem. Once my iPhone 12 starts up, everything seems to be working fine (so far). I also went to my local AT&T store and restarted two iPhone 12s on display. BOTH started up without any flashing of the Apple logo. This made me a bit concerned about the long-term health of my phone. SO......I spent another 2.5 hours on the phone with both AT&T and Apple. Apple engineers had me run "analytics and improvements" under the "privacy" tab in "settings", only to inform me that there "should be no cause for concern".

I took it to an apple warranty center and indeed, it is NOT a software. Instead it is a hardware problem which I have no idea what went wrong because water was no where near, or anything at all. I’m going to have it examined after my business trip. This is really concerning for other business people who are using iPhone 12 Pro or ProMax to do their job but frozen while on a business trip like me.
