Iphone 12 Pro text selection on haptic touch

Hi all,

I just changed from iphone xs to new iphone 12 Pro. It’s great phone but I can’t select text with haptic touch like I was able in iphone xs.

I have ios 14.3. Is there a trick to get this working or is it software problem?

iPhone 12 Pro, iOS 14

Finally I found a solution for this problem. Thank you Michael.

After you have moved the cursor on wanted place then you have to touch with other finger to start selecting text. This is fine alltough I liked the old version more where you could use only one finger.

Anyway, problem solved. Thank you for you quick and accurate answers

vilho47,

Thanks for the further clarification. Double-check the steps here: Type with the onscreen keyboard on iPhone.

"Turn the onscreen keyboard into a trackpad

  1. Touch and hold the Space bar with one finger until the keyboard turns light gray.
  2. Move the insertion point by dragging around the keyboard.
  3. To select text with handles, continue touching and holding the keyboard until handles appear on the insertion point, then move your fingers.
  4. To use the trackpad to move the insertion point, drag the insertion point to a new location before handles appear."

If it still isn't working, check again after a restart: Restart your iPhone.

You can also check if you are using a third-party keyboard inside Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards.

Let us know how it goes.

Cheers,

Hi vilho47,

Thanks for coming to Apple Support Communities for help today with selecting text on your new iPhone 12 Pro.

On your iPhone XS, you were using 3D Touch. On newer models of the iPhone, Haptic Touch has replaced it and therefore it may feel a bit different. You'd only press once. You can try changing the sensitivity: Change 3D or Haptic Touch sensitivity on your iPhone.
