Apple M1 Performance Issue

I am running a brand new 13'' MBP M1 machine with Ableton Live 10. The performance has been awful - CPU does not go below 60%, terrible latency, crackles, popping, etc. How do I know that Rosetta 2 is performing optimally? In the "Get Info" section of my Applications, the "open with Rosetta" to be checked is not there. Also, Ableton did not prompt me to install Rosetta upon downloading. I know I am in uncharted territory but any help would be greatly appreciated

You’re right it needs Rosetta2 according to https://isapplesiliconready.com/ . I guess the easy solution is to set the checkbox for Open with Rosetta, and if that doesn’t work the workaround is to find another app which demands Rosetta, download and launch to trigger the Rosetta download, then toss the app your only used to pull down and install Rosetta.

You should be able to find some clues to grab another Rosetta app in https://isapplesiliconready.com/

And one comment from the back room gurus,

I happen to know a lot about this because I just went through it.

Live needs to be at the most recent version (10.1.30) and the plugins/VST's need to be added and tested one at a time.

When Live was at 10.1.25 I experienced the same issues that the OP is having there.

I found that any plugins from Native Instruments drag everything down unless they are at the newest version as well.

New comment from the back room,

I have only seen one other person having this issue (post update) and it stemmed from them "unknowingly" using a less than legit version of Live.

The only other thing I would recommend is that they test with no plugins/VST installed.

I know nothing whatsoever about Ableton Live so I'm just the messenger here. Check your software and license (if applicable) is completely valid, not corrupted, whatever... and note the comment about testing without plugins/VST etc.

I see your problem about the checkbox, I've seen it mentioned in docs but no trace when I look for it here.

I think the first thing you need to do is try to check whether Rosetta is even on your system. That is causing me a few problems just to find any trace of it, and I know it's on my MacBook. The only clue I have found so far by searching the hard way is a single file which looks like a setup log. I found in Finder:

Macintosh HD/Library/Apple/usr/share/rosetta/rosetta (file)

The file is a simple text file and contains

translation is done

as preferred long in advance

rosetta idles

If you can find something like that you might have Rosetta active/available on your system, which is a big step forward.

That's about the limit of my learning so far. I'm going to pitch this problem at some of the other hardcore users and see if anyone else has any Good Ideas.

Yes, of course we are discussing Rosetta 2. This sounds like a settings problem or software conflict, so your guess is as good as mine at this point.

I have only one other thought at the moment, which feels horribly like passing the buck. Your MacBook Pro is relatively new, and Apple offers some (time limited) support for "up and running". Check your entitlement (might also depend where you live, and if you have AppleCare+) and seek support for Rosetta 2. I think it will be a MacOS topic rather than MacBook if you have the options. The link Get Support is top right of each forum thread if you think this is an option you can use..

Thank you very much for your helpful response

According to your instructions, I have confirmed that Rosetta is on my computer. Is this the 2nd generation version of Rosetta, "Rosetta 2?"

If I have Rosetta installed already, why is my performance so abysmal? I have asked other users of my software and they say Ableton Live is running very well with the Rosetta translation
