Apparently a lot of people have this problem after installing iOS 14.x, and the suggested solution does not help at all. I’ve been trying for a week or more to make an appointment at my local Apple store, but keep getting a message that says “could not connect to Apple Support”. This is extremely frustrating! If this is a known problem, why has Apple not addressed it?

Try going through the steps in this article: If Face ID isn't working on your iPhone or iPad Pro.
If you make it through step 8 without the issue being resolved, it is likely service will be required.
