Can you boot the laptop into macOS either from the internal drive or an external drive? If so, then run DriveDx and post the report here using the "Additional Text" icon which looks like a piece of paper.

If you cannot boot into macOS, then I can provide instructions for creating and booting a LInux USB stick to check the health of the SSD. Just let me know if you would like instructions. It isn't difficult.

Without retrieving the health information from the SSD there is no way to know the true condition of the SSD. Sometimes SSDs can still be used even if some of their health attributes are past the manufacturing limits, although you will need to be careful and have frequent and regular backups. Assuming macOS will even let you install to an SSD with a SMART failure notice. Unfortunately Apple SSD's don't always provide a lot of information although the older SSDs tend to provide more information than newer SSDs.

Since the MBAir uses a proprietary Apple PCIe SSD connector OWC is the only vendor which provides a drop in replacement SSD. A standard M.2 SSD may work if used with a Sintech adapter, but there is no guarantee and no official support from the vendors. I'm not certain if OWC or Sintech even make products for a 2009 MBAir. Since this is a 2009 model you would need to use a SATA based PCIe SSD.
