The password required is the userid and password of an Admin account. (The first userid created is an Admin, by default).

There is no separate password for System Preferences.

Hey there abuelatta,

We understand you're trying to change the password for a user account in System Preferences on your MacBook Pro, and we'd like to see if we can assist.

First, check to make sure you're using an admin account to try to update information in System Preferences.

Then give the steps here a try: Change or reset the password of a macOS user account

Cheers!
