I have a 16G, 6 generation ipod touch that I purchased in 2017. The "battery" issue I have is that the battery is expanding inside the case. The front or glass part of the ipod is peeling away from the case. Is this a defect?

I have a 16G, 6 generation ipod touch that I purchased in 2017. The "battery" issue I have is that the battery is expanding inside the case. The front or glass part of the ipod is peeling away from the case. Is this a defect? I also have an 8G ipod that is 10 or 11 years old that I use more than the new 1 and have any issue it. Can this ipod be repaired? If the battery is expanding, is this ipod going to be the cause of my house burning down? What are my options?

It sure is a defect. Stop using the iPod. Do not connect it to any power source. Take it to your local Apple store for an out-of-warranty repair. iPod Repair - https://support.apple.com/ipod/repair/service
