Not able to work on GarageBand files in a shared folder

My band has a shared iCloud folder. Whenever I try to open any file, regardless of who originally saved it, it downloads immediately to my hard drive and I hence I can't work on it directly off of the shared folder. Has anyone encountered this or have some suggestions? I've already logged out and back in to iCloud and I have access to the files in the Shared Folder. I can download them and work on them and then upload again but that defeats one of the best features of a shared folder.
