Control-V Command for Opening Clip Not Working in FCPX 10.5.1

Recently I was using the control-v keyboard shortcut for being able to control clip fades in and out. For some reason now when I choose a clip in the timeline and try the command, the clip is unresponsive. Any idea a what may be happening and how to correct it? Thank you.

While using a dissolve may work if one just wants to fade, the Show Video Animation command is useful for other things and it should work anyway. Is it just the shortcut that is not working? Does it work from the menu?

You may try deleting preferences.

To delete preferences, hold down command and option while starting FCP X and click Delete Preferences. The application will start in a default state, and open an “Untitled” library.

Reopen the library you were working on, set the preferences the way you like them, and try again.
