Bootable disk does not work 2012 MacBook Pro

Hi All - tried all this - have install successfully on USB - but when I start and hold option key nothing happens - goes right to usual login - did this because Command C and other Command combinations do not work either - tried different keyboard as well

Thanks- I am actually trading it in - and the issue is that the in two links noted above - Command R does not do anything at start up...it just gos right to a grey login page - since nothing seems to work - I will do as you suggest and remove hard drive....
Thanks!!! Really appreciate your help.

Trading it in— it is going to get recycled. Full stop.

Removing the hard drive simply ensures you have no personal data remaining— probably not even an issue since it will get shredded anyway.

If the drive is still functional you can still use it as an external backup drive—just stick it in an enclosure.

Hi - sorry for lack of details!
Yes - on a USB
Sending computer for trade in - want to erase hard drive and re-install OS
Biggest issue is that at startup - computer is unresponsive to Command R, Option key,  Option-Command-R or Shift-Option-Command-R, etc. Have tried as well resetting NVRAM and PRAM - does not seem to do anything
THANKS for your help
Steve

If you are trading it in— it will get stripped and recycled for basic elements, melted down, etc

So I would not waste time trying to re-install the macOS if you have an issue. Sound like your keyboard is not working.

If you can not boot to the USB installer or Recovery to erase you HD....

I would simply remove the HD before you send it in.
