Why do calendar invites that I send come from noreply@email.apple

I can only assume that someone at Apple is trying to get everyone to switch to Google Calendar.

Then why does it send an ics file by email

For the same reason that Google Calendars and other calendars do - to have data to put into the recipient's calendar in a standard format. It's not unique to Apple.

The invitation system does include non-iCloud/Mac/iOS users. The ics file is a universal calendar format used on many platforms. I've sent invitations from Calendar to Windows users for example.

You just said it doesn't interact with email clients. If so what is the point of sending an ics file to the invitee's email client.

And if it is a standard format why is the email containing the ics file sent from a different address than the address of the originator contained within the ics file, which means that most email clients receiving the invitation can not send an ics response back to the originator.
