Macbook air saying Safari can’t open. Won’t restart or shut down either

Why is my macbook air not allowing me to open safari? I ask siri to open Safari and it says ‘I couldn’t open safari. Sorry about that.’ I checked if safari needed updating and it said nothing needed updating. I go to my software updates and i try to install that and get it to restart but it won’t restart either. I then try to shut it down and it won’t do that too.

The model is the macbook air (retina, 13-inch, 2020) so it isn’t old.

Hello mollylouiseburns98,

It sounds like you're unable to open Safari on your Mac, and we want to help.

Do you experience issues when asking Siri to open other apps, or complete other tasks, or does this only happen with Safari? More about using Siri here: How to use Siri on your Mac

Just to confirm, does this issue only happen when you ask Siri to open Safari? In other words, are you able to open Safari manually?

If the issue is only happening with Siri, or you're not able to open Safari manually either, there are some additional steps here that may help: If you can’t open a Safari window on Mac

Thanks!
