I updated my four HomePod Mini’s to software version 14.4 today. Now when I call out “Hey Siri, turn up (or down) volume” Siri responds with “Sorry there was a problem adjusting volume”. I can still ask Siri from the time or temp just fine. I can also adjust the volume by using the +/- on top or the HomePod’s. Any thoughts out there?

I called Apple today and the first level person person after listening to what I already did cut to the chase and had me reset one HomePod to factory defaults and reconfigure it. Siri still wouldn’t adjust the volume. I was then transferred to a senior advisor and he had me just tell Siri to play some music (from iTunes) and this time Siri would adjust the volume correctly. The way I was running my HomePods is through AirPlay via the SXM app on my iPad Pro 10.5. So we tried running the SXM app on my iPad Pro 12.9 and Siri was failing there also. Next we tried AirPlay via Apple Podcast on my MacBook Air and Siri failed here also. So the advisor asked about my home network and asked if I could reboot my network. I said I would do it later tonight and test Siri then. I report my results later.
Given up on the issue. Apple must be aware of it? Sorry there’s an issue adjusting the volume - it drives one into despair.
After investing a large sum of money in a number of the original HomePods I now read they are now defunct. Apple are going to concentrate on the mini HomePod. I challenge anyone to put a mini and the big brother together and say the mini is better. In terms of complex music it is not. Apple simply chasing money, they have more money than the Bank of England, over quality. Apple did the same with their Superb Airport routers. Apple, starting thinking of your customers for once.
Update to my post before: Is also a problem when in the room is an apple tv instead of the airport. The statement of siri is not exactly the same. She says ohoh, something does not work.
and it also don‘t work, when i use my phone instead of homepod to ask siri.
Hi Vancouver22. I tried to restart one of the HomePods following your instructions and it didn’t work.
Agree that 14.4 seems to be the problem. I wish we could downgrade the os, like we can on Airport Express...
Had the issue after installing 14.4. Frustrating I know. I left well alone and like magic it corrected itself. It must be something to do with AirPlay? Good luck
I just submitted a feedback to Apple via the feedback assistant. We’ll see where it goes.
I’m struggling with this problem too. I have been to Apple Store and got a new one but the stuttering is still there, it’s so annoying! Let’s wait and see if it would be fixed in iOS 14.5 :(
