Epson V550 Photo scanner

Prior to installing Catalina, the scanner worked fine with my iMac. I then installed the Scan 2 driver as directed. As of those installations, my iMac no longer recognizes the scanner as being connected via USB on the system report, nor is it recognized via Scan 2 software, image capture or printer/scanner in System Preferences. The scanner appears dead. I have checked and rechecked power and USB cables as well as uninstalled and reinstalled the Scan 2 driver. Epson support has been no help. Any ideas? Anyone else run into anything similar?

Epson released an Apple Image Capture (ICA) v5.8.9 scanner driver on Jan 5, 2021, for this device on Catalina and the regular scanner driver and Epson Scan 2 utility on Oct 6, 2020. Did you install these?


On the System Preferences > Printers & Scanner's panel, did you right-click on the device, and then re-add it with the Epson drivers to allow it to see the new driver updates? Have you tried Apple's Image Capture with this scanner instead of Epson's Scan 2 software?


You might also test the trial of VueScan Professional on the V550, though it does require functional Epson drivers installed before it will work.
