The following will require any USB keyboard and mouse. If you don’t have them, borrow or buy them, they are inexpensive!
1. Connect the USB keyboard and mouse to the computer.
2. Open System Preferences – Bluetooth
3. Un-pair the wireless keyboard and mouse.
4. Turn off Bluetooth
5. Restart the computer in Safe Mode per the directions in https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262
6. Restart the computer normally.
7. Open System Preferences – Bluetooth
8. Turn on Bluetooth
9. Re-Pair the wireless keyboard and mouse.
10. Unplug the USB keyboard and mouse and begin testing the wireless devices again.

not being funny - check the keyboard has not switched off by pressing the button on the right hand stand section, or check the batteries - good luck :)
If it’s a wired keyboard, it sometimes can help to connect the keyboard to a hub instead of directly to the mac
It doesn’t have a button on the side, I think it’s a very old one as i purchased it from Wowcher As it’s her first pc and wasn’t sure, it’s been working amazing, I’ve changed the batteries in the keyboard and still no luck, the usb from the mouse isn’t working either, I’m guessing it’s linked, I don’t know if she has accidentally turnt off the Bluetooth, but I can’t check because we can’t get passed the login with password stage because the keyboard isn’t working. I’ve just put an old mouse into it and it’s working fine, but no luck with keyboard :(
Thankyou for your advice tho x

Ok so I’m using a different keyboard and managed to get in, I’ve tried to pair her other mouse and keyboard through Bluetooth, and it’s not finding either of them at all, it telling me in the screen to make sure the mouse has batteries etc but on this particular model the mouse doesn’t seem to have any and there is nowhere obvious that I can try and take the mouse apart
I will definitely try this, Thankyou so much, will let you know how I get on
Your welcome.
Did you follow all of the steps as I described them above. If you do that will likely solve the problem.
I just have up and ordered her new keyboard and mouse, more up to date one where you can also plug it in (just in case) 😂😂 Thankyou for your help tho, it’s much appreciated x
I hops you bought Apple's keyboard and mouse. If you bought third party they should work fine too though.
