connected device icon missing in iTunes

There is no icon for connected device in iTunes after clean install of OS10.14.6 - so unable to perform manual backup????

device backups show blank? My back ups on external HDD was gone when the external HDD was corrupted and could not be recovered. I bought another external HDD for this purpose but I couldn't locate any of my devices being listed in the iTunes Preferences? OS Sierra does not recognize any iDevice in iTunes Mac OS Sierra, haven't done backups to my iPad and iPhone in quite some time. Tried to do it just now, asks for trust and confirmed, but neither still show up in iTunes. Have done all updates on all devices. iDevices show connected to USB under system info but not under finder. Tried multiple cables and still no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

itunes recovery I'm running an HP Envy desktop. My HP's program drive C (SSD) failed and was replaced with only Windows 10 re-installed. My data drive D (separate hard drive) holds all of my itunes files and music and seems to be OK but my itunes icon disappeared from my desktop. I have an external backup drive that was up to date when the SSD failed. The itune files now look the same on the old data drive (D) and the backup. I cannot see any itunes related files on the backup for the program drive (C) so I believe all the itunes related material was on the data drive D). However, I cannot launch itunes without the itunes icon. Do I need to download a new Itunes or can I still work with what I have? I am unsure and nervous about the best way forward as I have a substantial library of digitized vinyl that I don't want to mess up?
