My 2015 MacBook Air suddenly slowed down significantly

I recently had Apple upgrade my OS El Capitan to Big Sur. I now find using apps like "Video Caption Maker" take 1 minute or longer to execute on each command.

I asked to get my old operating system back but was unable.

Any ideas how to fix this?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 11.1

Start by checking for updates to your third party software for Big Sur compatibility. The App Store is a good place to begin.
