Hi,

The latest driver from Lexmark appears to be for macOS Sierra 10.12.

I guess that you have already tried this or another older driver.

Unless the operating system offers a suitable driver when adding the printer, you would have to look for another solution. I assume that the printer is connected to a network via Ethernet.

You may want to begin by resetting the printing system.

Is it possible to print if you choose a generic (PostScript or PCL) driver in the Use: field when adding the printer as a network printer? You may have to try different protocols (LPD, etc). For details, see the Add a network printer by its IP address section in Add a printer on Mac - Apple Support.

The CX417de does not appear to be a printer supporting the driverless AirPrint technology (but a CX410de is listed in About AirPrint - Apple Support), so some kind of driver will probably be needed.

There are universal print drivers from Lexmark (https://www.lexmark.com/en_us/support/universal-print-driver.html). The CX417de printer is compatible with the Windows version (https://www.lexmark.com/en_us/support/universal-print-driver-compatibility.html), but I cannot find anything about a CX417de or Big Sur in the white paper for macOS (https://www.lexmark.com/content/dam/lexmark/documents/white-paper/y2020/Lexmark_UPD_1b_TWP_mac_en.pdf).

If nothing else helps, you may possibly want to carry out a test with the Mac universal colour print driver package (https://downloads.lexmark.com/downloads/drivers/Lexmark_UC1_PrinterSoftware_12072020.dmg) in order to determine whether it would work at all with your printer and Big Sur. Look upon this as a pure experiment. It may not work. There is always a certain risk with an experiment. Software conflicts cannot be ruled out. Data may be lost. A hardware problem is unlikely, but it is impossible to guarantee anything. Make sure that you have backup copies of important files before any tests.
