'System' takes up 80GB of my storage

I have a Macbook Air 13-inch 2015, OS High Sierra, and I have absolutely no storage because system is taking up 80GB of my hard drive, I've trimmed off everything I can but I only have 5GB left so I can't do anything at all. Is there a way to reduce?

I've tried restarting my computer using 'Safe Boot' or whatever it is where you hold shift as you turn it on after shutting it down but that removed a mere 3GB.

I'm beyond confused on what to do as it seems like no one has a clear answer.
