How to remove an icon from desktop in MacBook

I have tried again and again to remove an icon from my desktop. It simply would not go away or allow me to see what was on the disk the icon represented. I could not trash it, delete it, remove it, or burn anything to it.

FINALLY, I found a solution.....I deleted Finder, then restarted the MacBook. In place of the disk icon, I then had a burn folder which I promptly put in the trash. PROBLEM SOLVED!!

Finder cannot be deleted... it's a core part of macOS and protected in the System volume in macOS Catalina and later. Did you mean that you relaunched it using the Force Quit menu? (Command-Option-Esc)
