Cannot connect external Logitech webcam to MacBook Air on Samsung Desktop Monitor

Dear Community,

I tried several times to connect the external Logi webcam to MacBook Air on Samsung C34J791 34" 21:9 Curved FreeSync VA Monitor with thunderbolt. No success.

In settings Security & Privacy / Camera there is no sign of external webcam connected. The same on System Report / Camera. Iy only shows Apple Camera VendorID_0x106B ProductID_0x1570 and no sign of Logi webcam. Tried to connect using two different USB inputs but it doesn't work.

Any help will be appreciated.

Hi again oswald_vs,

Thanks for that information. Try connecting the webcam directly to the Mac rather than through the monitor. Devices connected through the monitor's ports may not be able to be used by the Mac.

We hope this helps!

Hi Raina,

I connected my other MAC BookAir and it works fine with the Samsung 34inch Curved Monitor.

I also tried what you recommended and the Logi StreamCam works perfect connected with the MAC Book Air.

The problem it looks like is actually my MAC Book Air. I am not sure if is because is 2016 perhaps? The Samsung monitor works with the Webcams as well as my Mac Book Air when I connect the Logi StreamCam directly to the laptop. The issue is when I use my 2016 year old MAC Book Air with the Samsung Monitor which everything works, except the webcam when I connect my laptop to the monitor.

Hi again oswald_vs,

We want to confirm we fully understand this issue and our resolution. It sounds like you have a 2016 MacBook Air connected to a Samsung monitor, then you have a Logitech webcam connected to the monitor. The webcam does not work while plugged in through the monitor, but does work when connected directly to the Mac. Is that correct?

If so, this issue is because the ports on your screen may not work to connect peripherals to your Mac, like webcams or external hard drives. You can contact Samsung to check for any settings, firmware updates, or software requirements since it works with your other Mac.

We hope this helps!
