Using Canon Pixma iX6820 with OS 10.5.8

I am having trouble finding a driver for the following combination: Canon Pixma iX6820 with OS 10.5.8.

(I can't upgrade the OS because of other software and hardware limitations.) Would appreciate any solutions or workarounds. It seems to me that there is a hole in support for this in Gimp print, although I'm not really good at understanding printer drivers.

Thanks

MacBook

When you go to Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Print & Scan, and hold the + symbol below the printers with the Option key on your keyboard, the open source drivers for any connected printer will appear. It is best to use a USB printer cable to ensure all drivers for that printer are visible, when plugging it in, and make sure the printer is turned on.

If the drivers are not present, finding these old drivers are going to be very difficult at this stage, as official drivers are only available on Canon website for 10.6.8 or later. If your Mac says in Apple menu -> About This Mac that it is Intel, you can upgrade to 10.6.8 using the 10.6 retail installer disc, without losing much compatibility. If however, your computer is older than January 7, 2006, unfortunately you will need to find an older printer to support it.

a brody,

Thanks for the help and suggestions.I did as you suggested and the ix6820 shows up in a Canon IJ Network. All it shows is "Unsupported Printer" under type. This is running on a G5 Power PC. which doesn't like 10.6.8.

The reason for sticking with the printer is that it prints darker blacks for use as film positives for darkroom work.

Still hoping for a solution...
