Mojave download app "broken"

I need to upgrade my mid-2012 Macbook Pro from High Sierra to Mojave to run some necessary software. I did some research, and it should be doable -- my graphics card is compatible. I have 16 GB RAM, and an SSD with plenty of room. When I went to upgrade, I got the message "This copy of the Install macOS Mojave application is damaged, and can‘t be used to install macOS."

Anyone know of a workaround?

I have no further advice other than to boot into Safe Boot mode and try the preceding process again. Something may be interfering with the download process, and booting into Safe mode may exclude that interference. If safe boot mode doesn't get a successful download, then I am out of suggestions.

Move the damaged installer to the Trash and empty the Trash. You will need a minimum of 12.5 GB of available storage to install Mojave. You will have to free up that storage if you cannot meet that requirement.

Using strictly the Safari browser, visit How to get old versions of macOS, and follow the link to the download for Mojave. If you have the means to sustain a wired Ethernet connection then do so, while leaving your MacBook Pro on a charger.

You might want to verify that your printer/scanner vendor(s) provide device drivers for Mojave, or that other third-party applications are also supported on Mojave.

That message actually means that the App Store has detected a copy of Install macOS Mojave.app

in your Applications folder. Locate it, move it to the Trash, empty the Trash.

Try again.

Connect your mac to your router via cable, restart your mac.

Go back to the App Store Mojave page it will now say Get or Download,

not Open as before, see screenshot. The downloaded installer app should

be 6.05GBs in size.

Do not use the mac while it is downloading or any other devices that share the same internet connection.
